Many women and children were killed in this attack. Sadly, in war, this kind of event is all too common. Why do these things happen? It’s a hard fact that wars get more violent as they go along. Soldiers lose friends and want revenge. Soldiers have been given permission to kill, and they have been trained to do this. Now they can do it with little likelihood of discovery. The military mind is different from the civilian one. Death and destruction do not shock them as they shock Civilians.

These attitudes are the attitudes we are up against as we pray. Remember this from Amos 3:13 “For three sins of Ammon, even for four, I will not relent. Because he ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead in order to extend his borders.”

We have to pray into the violence in the human heart. This is a very dark place to enter.
