How many Russian servicemen have been killed in Ukraine? It is a criminal offence in Russia to report anything other than the official figures.

According to information released by Russia’s Defence Ministry, 498 soldiers have lost their lives in what the Kremlin calls its “special military operation”. Those are the latest figures, from 2 March. There has been no update for two weeks.

Mothers and fathers, wives and husbands grieving. War is a harsh environment. Everyone suffers. In all our struggle against the dark powers, let’s remember those who mourn today on all sides. The war will eventually end, but their suffering will last a lifetime. Long after it is all over – 20, 30, 40 years ahead, this sorrow will linger. From the going down of the sun and in the morning, let’s remember them.
