Ukraine’s government is willing to consider declaring neutrality and offering security guarantees to Russia, including keeping the country nuclear-free, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said.
Speaking to independent Russian journalists on Sunday, he said that the issue of neutrality and agreeing to stay out of NATO should be put to Ukrainian voters in a referendum after Russian troops withdraw. He added that a vote could happen within months after Russian troops leave the country – prompting the Kremlin to quickly ban the interview from being published.
While not clear, neutrality could include an agreement that Ukraine not engage in future conflicts and agrees not to enter into defence treaties with organisations like NATO.
Um. As I have said many times, it all has to end in talking. The Ukrainian President is talking – basically offering Russia everything it claims it wants. Russia has banned the statement. It wants total victory . At least it gives those who are wanting peace something to use. Let’s pray and see what happens. Perhaps Russia needs a dramatic disaster militarily – that might make it want to talk.
