While the reason for the fighting, according to Putin, is he has to defend the Russian speakers of eastern Ukraine and prevent its former Soviet neighbour from becoming an anti-Russian platform for Moscow’s enemies, multiple investigations are underway into the atrocities seen in nearly seven weeks of full-scale war.
The prosecutor at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague opened a case in February based on “a reasonable basis to believe that both alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity have been committed in Ukraine”. The horrors reported from the port city of Mariupol and the executions of civilians in the town of Bucha are among the cases under investigation.
Mr Biden told reporters: “More evidence is coming out of the horrible things that the Russians have done in Ukraine. And we’re going to only learn more and more about the devastation.”
More from the Russian side. “Putin has to defend the Russian speakers of eastern Ukraine and prevent its former Soviet neighbour from becoming an anti-Russian platform for Moscow’s enemies.” So it’s “I have to do it. Sorry but that’s the way it is.” Match this against the awful crimes he is guilty of and we see what a lie is being spoken. Remember the tyrant is “the father of lies.” The problem for us is – the Russian people seem to have accepted this without question. Are they afraid of the tyrant, or is the tyrant dressing himself in Nationalism – “We have to defend ourselves don’t we?” Defend ourselves by murdering pregnant women? Of course. The tyrant knows no mercy or limit to his evil. The truth is slowly emerging. This tyrant is evil, deceitful, the father of lies. Any Christian should have no difficulty in recognising him. Goliath, Nebuchadnezzar, Herod. As we battle on, our enemy is becoming clearer, and the clearer he becomes the more chance we hive of bringing him down.
