“An increasingly belligerent Russia has forced a rethink across the political spectrum in both Sweden and neighbour Finland, which is also outside the 30-member NATO alliance.
“When Russia invaded Ukraine, Sweden’s security position changed fundamentally,” the Social Democrats said in a statement. Finland is also expected to outline its path regarding NATO in the coming weeks.
The Kremlin said on Monday that the possible accession of Sweden and Finland to the NATO military alliance would not bring stability to Europe.
Wars often show the power of the law of unintended consequences. The tyrant counted on a quick victory. This has not happened. Now the tyrant is driving more of Europe into the very grouping – NATO – which it says is responsible for the Ukraine war. When it is over, the tyrant is going to find itself faced with a much more formidable NATO grouping. The tyrant has changed the balance of power in Europe – against itself. Hopefully the more sensible of the Russian people will see this and give the tyrant the abuse and criticism it deserves. The Russian people must be one of our prayer targets. If they see what is happening for what it is – who knows what might happen next.
