Our dear and long-term friend Esther came to visit us the week before we flew home. In the 60s her husband was Ghana’s ambassador in London so we have a lot in common. We sat chatting about England as the children played in the classrooms beneath us. Then came a lovely surprise. Next to her house in Roman Ridge her cousin runs an Ethiopian restaurant – definitely the best in Accra. When we were in Ghana during the pandemic our Christmas dinner was Ethiopian curry from this very restaurant. Ethiopian flavours are beautiful, different and very enjoyable to eat along with Ethiopian bread – Injera. This is a sour fermented pancake-like flatbread with a slightly spongy texture, traditionally made of teff flour. I love it! So that night, we sat on the balcony, as the African sun finally cooled and began to set. The birds were flying home and the sky was that beautiful indigo-blue so typical of Africa. Eating my favourite African food with Mary beside me under our favourite sky. Lovely!

The Ark

We are back in the UK but Ghana fills our lives. We are already planning how we might restart the Ark church, made up of our youth. Originally, we planned to have a fixed time for this, but a new pattern is emerging. Mary will continue to teach the group while she is in Ghana, but will appoint 2 of the group to be “prayer leaders.” They will lead prayer each time we meet. Then someone will be appointed “Singer” so we can have music each time. Slowly Mary’s teaching sessions will become an Ark Church meeting.

Brochures

We still have brochures available – on the stadium, the school and “A teacher is for life”, and a few A4 posters. They are post free to you thanks to a generous donation. Let David know if you would like some. Don’t delay – when they are gone there will be no reprints. David can be contacted using the link at the top of this article.
