Happy Christmas!

Monday, December 25th 2023CHRISTMAS DAY

Today I’ve been doing live streams for Christmas Day. Our room is warm and cosy. Outside it’s dark and raining. We will soon be off to Saint Phillip’s for Christmas morning worship in typical English village style. Then lunch together with whoever of the family can turn up. Mary and I will finish with an evening live stream to encourage any who are on their own on this day.

Nothing could contrast more than our Christmas Day in Ghana. We wake up to 25C and rising. The trees look beautifully green and the sky is as usual, blue. We choose our brightest coloured clothes and go off to a morning of praise and worship which will be exciting and very rewarding. Sometimes the children received little gifts from the church, although on our base we usually reserve that for a party later in the week.

“In the bleak winter” as we shiver or “He is alive alleluia” as we get hotter and hotter. Same Jesus!

Our base is strangely quiet. It’s vacation time and all our children and young people are in their homes or villages. Often when I walk across the base, the kindergarten children will shout out “Granddaddy! Granddaddy!” Today all is quiet after church. In my office no sounds come up from the classrooms beneath me. We all miss them. They will soon be back – can’t come quick enough for me!
