Instant reflections of life in Ghana today

I found this in the Daily Graphic

“Auntie Muni, the famous waakye seller at Labone junction in Accra has passed away, aged 72. Waakye is rice and beans. It’s made with fragrant basmati rice or jasmine rice. The family of this celebrated waakye seller, Auntie Imoro Muniratu popularly known as Auntie Muni, has confirmed her passing.”

There are many like Auntie Muni in the streets of Accra. Individuals who run market stalls, sell food from their baskets, or are well known for certain goods and services. Africa likes people. We go to the ones we know for what we need and they become personalities in our lives. African society is not so dehumanised as that in the West, and that’s why the death of an insignificant trader makes it into the national papers.

Now more on the upcoming election which will fill the media in the coming months.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has been urged to remain fair and firm in order not to compromise its integrity to affect the credibility of the Election 2024 and disturb the prevailing peace of the nation.

According to some Reverend Ministers in the Sunyani Municipality, “The destiny and future of the nation lay partly in the hands of the EC, and we expect the Commission to remain resolute and steadfast ahead of the Election 2024.”

The church plays a massive part in the life of Ghana, so it has a key role in trying to ensure free and fair elections. It keeps a very careful eye on everything and its opinions are published nationally and taken very seriously. All the political parties keep their eye on what the church is saying. We will hear their voice more and more in the coming months.
