Ghana today – Jim’s view

Instant reflections of life in Ghana today

Thursday February 1st 2024

Ghana is football mad just like the rest of the world, so for the Ghana Black Stars to be kicked out of the Africa Cup of nations at the first stage has not gone down well. I read this on a website –
“The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars,” the GFA said. Chris Hughton, manager, has been in the role since replacing Otto Addo following the 2022 World Cup. Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior national team with immediate effect,” the GFA said. “The executive council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.”

Ghana lost their opening Group B game to Cape Verde, followed by two draws with Mozambique and Egypt both with a 2-2 score.

The feeling among my Ghanaian friends was that a westerner should never been appointed in the first place, even though he claimed some Ghana heritage. So another cry will go up for Ghanaian appointment, he will fail and the next thing we will hear is “Why are we not appointing a manager from Europe!”

We may be different cultures but in some things we are identical. All we need in our football is to fire the manager, replace him and all will be well. Sounds just like the UK!
