The Daily Graphic is highlighting this news –
“There is the need for integration of point of care testing technology (POCT) into primary care setting to advance early diagnosis and care of children with sickle cell disease (SCD), particularly in resource-limited regions in the country. This, according to a study, would help improve patient outcomes and reduce the burden of SCD on affected individuals and their families.”
Sickle cell disease, which seems mostly confined to the black communities of the world is a most debilitating illness. It brings acute pain and suffering to those who have it, disrupting their daily lives. It’s most painful effects fade a little when the suffers are fully grown adults. Every initiative is welcome in the fight against this disease, often overlooked by the white communities.
