Doing what we can

Monday 1st July 2024

One of the challenges we face as a mission is living in an area which is not wealthy. We are constantly challenged with the basic needs of those that lives around us. Things like cooking oil, clean water, baby products and basic health needs. Little is done for female health and the women mostly just have to manage.

We’re hoping that with the opening of our health centre and the employing of a nurse we can at least begin to help at some of the basic levels. We’re launching our own programme to provide free sanitary products for the women on our base. These products are very expensive and many girls and women are making do when they should not have to.

It’s easy to despair and say “what’s the point we can only help 30 or 40 women?” I’ve always been encouraged by the old Irish proverb – “better to light a single candle than sit and curse the darkness.” We do the little we can and hope that others will be inspired to do the same in their schools and their churches.
