Instant reflections of life in Ghana today
Thursday 15th August 2024
“The President of Ghana has just pledged to step down as president when his second term ends on January 7th 2025 he was saying this in order to emphasise that he is upholding Ghana’s democratic traditions which limits the president to two terms.”
This does not look like world shattering news, but it is vitally important. So many presidents in Africa refuse to step down, refuse to accept the vote as being honest and fair or just use the power of the military to continue in office.
Ghana is proud of its tradition of handing over power. There’s usually quite a lot of shouting by the MPs but here in Ghana we like a good shout! The fact is that we keep doing it, and as has so often been the case in the past, Ghana is giving the lead to the rest of Africa and indeed many parts of the world.
