It’s life!

Monday 19th August 2024

We were shopping in the big western supermarket this week. It is in the centre of Accra and has its eyes on the wider world community. Co-op beans, many Waitrose products and many imports from South Africa and Asia. Prices are high but if it is in Ghana it is here. Compare that with our valley, where even the staples of plantain, tomatoes and yam are only just affordable.

Africa is a land of stark contrasts. Rich and poor, plenty and famine, rain and drought. The missionary life has to take all these things into account. Preaching, teaching and strategy has to be shaped within these contrasts. And we have to live with them. We struggle to find our food. We endure the chaos and the power outages. We have to find the money for fuel and endure the terrible transport network. We have to help those who cannot afford medicines or food. We get bitten by the mosquito and sometimes get malaria. It’s all just part of life.
