As a Mission we are growing and the base in Ghana has well over 300 children and we are developing the boarding facility and the performing arts studio. In addition, we are looking to plant other schools and churches. But growth presents its own challenges.
We seek to function frugally, with a generosity towards the work so the children and people the Lord has given us responsibility for, may grow and flourish. Our administration team is minimal but efficient. But we are needing some help.
In order to have total transparency with our financial administration we need to spread the load. Dave Smith as chairman of the trust also looks after the accounts and payments as financial controller. We realise that this cannot continue as our organisation grows.
We are looking for someone to have access to the accounts each month and annotate each payment to its rightful column, ensuring that all income and payments are accounted for – a finance assistant. Then Dave will have a final check and pass it to the administration team for approval. This will include any payments which he has made during that month.
It’s a very simple task and can be done by the person concerned having access to our system but is essential to ensure transparent honesty and accountability.
Alongside of that we also need another person who would also have access to our accounts who can make any payments and administer the accounts in the event of our financial controller becoming debilitated. It would be a backstop should the eventuality arise – a deputy finance controller.
And finally – we would welcome new trustees onto our main governing body. It would be sensible to review our structures and it would be a positive step to separate the role of financial controller from the role of chairman which Dave has sustained manfully since inception of the trust.
Please give prayerful consideration to this plea. It is essential to have the right structures in place and the people to fill these necessary roles. The future viability of the Trust and the Serving Africa Mission depends on what happens next.
